ROCK music is the last thing the Mark Kavanagh stable has wanted to think about for the past week.
With his Flemington operation broken into following the Melbourne Big Day Out, Kavanagh is considering unleashing a different version of rock to Adelaide this weekend in the form of exciting colt We're Gonna Rock.
The highly promising three-year-old created a huge impression down the Flemington straight on debut prior to Christmas, giving rivals a tidy start before unleashing sizzling sectional times into a strong head wind.
His times bettered All Silent's stunning Patinack Farm Sprint win during the Flemington Carnival, running his last 600m in a slicker 31.82sec, 400m in 21.35sec and the final 200m of his race in an identical 11.07sec to the seasoned All Silent.
Kavanagh has nominated We're Gonna Rock in both Melbourne and Adelaide this weekend.
"I haven't made up my mind yet, I'll wait til I get home tonight and I can have a good luck at both options," Kavanagh said from the Karaka Yearling Sale in New Zealand where he was an active buyer. There is a strong possibility that he'll run in Adelaide."
So impressive was the win there was a reported $5 million offer to buy a half-share in the three-year-old by leading businessmen John Singleton and Gerry Harvey. He was purchased as a $180,000 yearling.
We're Gonna Rock will clash with promising local filly I'm Discreet who has tasted defeat just once in five starts when third behind Speedy Natalie in the Dequetteville Stakes in July.
Kavanagh has nominated the exciting youngster for both the Australian Guineas at 1600m and the $1 million Newmarket Handicap at the 1200m journey, but will let We're Gonna Rock ultimately decide which path he'll take.
We're Gonna Rock won't be the only Kavanagh runner to create plenty of interest at the weekend with Melbourne Cup winner Shocking set to resume in the CF Orr Stakes at Flemington.
The 1400m feature has attracted eight individual Group 1 winners including Typhoon Tracy and Heart Of Dreams. 2008 Melbourne Cup winner Viewed is one of three nominations for Bart Cummings while Littorio returns from 10 months on the sidelines.
