CLARRY Conners may be forced to send his quality sprinter Court to Melbourne earlier than expected if the rain continues to fall in Sydney this week.
Court was due to run in the Expressway Stakes at Rosehill last Saturday but her poor record on rain affected tracks left Conners with no option but to abort his plans on the morning of the race.
The talented mare is nominated for both the Breeders Classic and Southern Cross Stakes, both run over 1200m at Randwick this Saturday, but Conners is also considering the Group One Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield on February 20.
"Everything was going good until the rain started to fall," he said. "It was just going to be a non event if we went around in the wet, they hardly made any ground on the day from the back of the fields and she just doesn't handle it as well as others.
"It throws my plans out the window because now I have to make a decision whether to catch up a week or miss a run all together.
"My first option now is to run her on Saturday, weather permitting. If not I will take her down to Melbourne for the Oak- leigh Plate before running in the Newmarket."
Conners, a winner of four Golden Slippers, is also preparing to unleash a couple of handy two-year-olds in the Listed Widden Stakes (1100m) at Randwick this Saturday.
Georgette Silk attracted plenty of support at her first start when finishing second to Blue Diamond favourite Beneteau at Randwick on Australia Day, while Debut caught the eye with a tidy barrier trial late last month.
"Both fillies go quite well," he said. "Georgette Silk was not bad behind Beneteau and you saw what he did on the weekend.
"She has come on since that run. Debut is also coming along nicely and should be competitive."
