Having his first start since last August, Geffen unleashed a powerful finishing burst to score a narrow win in the Rotary Club of Gosford Maiden.

Ridden by apprentice Ben Looker, Geffen ($6.50) came steaming home to score by a short-neck from Anything ($2.50 favourite) with Siena Eagle ($4.60) only a long-head away third.

Geffen is a well-bred four-year-old by Flying Spur and yesterday's success was his first in four starts.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse is confident Geffen can continue to race his way through the grades this campaign.

Geffen's stablemate Brightexpectations, The Daily Telegraph's other Punters Club galloper, continues his Golden Slipper campaign in the Group Three $125,000 Skyline Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday. Top jockey Glyn Schofield has been booked for the ride.

The share of prizemoney won by The Daily Telegraph Punters Club horses will go towards the costs associated with training and raceday expenses.

Any profits will be donated to charity.
