Misshiraz showed the benefits of a good barrier and race experience when she scored a comfortable victory at Rosehill
Having her third start the Garry Frazer-trained filly, who started at $18, jumped from barrier one and was able settle around midfield before letting down with a nice sprint to defeat the fast-finishing Extra Celestial ($81) by 1-1/4 lengths with Smash Hit ($3.80) a long head away third in the Asbestos Disease Foundation Hcp (1100m).
Snap Dragons, the $2.25 favourite, was a massive flop finishing more than 24 lengths last and was ordered to undergo a veterinary examination after the race.
Misshiraz's quiet early run was in contrast to her last start when she was pushed forward because of a wide barrier at Rosehill on October 24 when she was second to Intertidal over 1100 metres.
"Race experience showed today, it usually counts for something and I thought she'd run a nice race," Frazer said.
"The inside barrier also helped, she was able to run the type of race she wanted today, fairly quiet with a big finish.
"Last start she drew wide (barrier seven of eight) and had to go forward early which didn't suit."
Misshiraz is by Secret Savings out of Snaadee mare Viator and cost $80,000 as a yearling.
"She's done her job now and we'll send her to the paddock, she'll be a better filly later over more ground," Frazer said.
Misshiraz was ridden by Tye Angland who was apprenticed to Frazer.
"Tye did a great job on her today, it's great to see him develop into such a terrific rider," Frazer said.
On debut in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes last month, Misshiraz was 12 lengths last in the race won by Gybe after being forced to work hard to get a position early from barrier eight of 13.
Extra Celestial's trainer Anthony Cummings was pleased with the Danehill Dancer filly.
"She's very green, she beat herself," Cummings said.
"All the way down the running she was looking all over the place but she showed a lot of promise."
