Trainer Steele Ryan won't have any regrets about losing Steel Lips to do his future racing in Macau if the entire wins the Listed Tattersall's Member's Cup at Eagle Farm.
The six-year-old was due to have his final race in Australia in the Tattersall's Member's Cup (1600m) a fortnight ago before the meeting at Eagle Farm was washed out.
Gold Coast businessman Steve Rose recently purchased a controlling interest in Steel Lips and decided to delay his departure following Queensland Racing Limited's decision to transfer the black-type feature to Saturday.
"Some of his previous owners sold their share in Steel Lips to Steve and he's now the major shareholder and wants to send him to Macau to race," Ryan said.
"I'd like to keep him here but my wife has a share in the horse so I'm happy to see him race over there.
"He's got at least another two or three years left in him and he might prove more successful in Macau.
"The prizemoney over there is very good and the wet tracks they get make it attractive for him to go."
Steel Lips was due to go into quarantine last week but Rose decided to start him at Doomben where he produced an eye-catching performance to finish second to Sommersea Drive over 1350 metres last Saturday.
Ryan rated Steel Lips unlucky and is not worried by the seven-day back-up and the step up in class to Listed level.
"He's pulled up well so I'm not worried about him backing up," Ryan said.
"I thought he was a bit unlucky and should have won last week.
"He was a victim of circumstances when he got held up and he would have won with a clear run."
Steel Lips has never won a black-type race but has raced competitively at this level in the past.
He ran a close fourth to Soiled in the Listed Sir Edward Williams (1500m) at Eagle Farm in May last year before finishing seventh, just over three lengths behind the winner Mitanni, in the Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) last June.
He flopped badly at his only other attempt when 16th to Ghetto Blaster in the Listed Doomben Stakes (1350m) in December.
Ryan was reluctant to single out a danger to Steel Lips who will be attempting to win for the eighth time in his 31-start career.
"I'm not looking at the others and I'm just happy to be saddling up mine," he said.
